Three Things That Keep Bringing Me Back

Three Things That Keep Bringing Me Back

God. Nature. People. And the things that help me remember what matters.

This morning, Bailey and I started down the driveway again.

The birds were louder than my thoughts for a change.

The trees hadn't changed.

The mailbox hadn't moved.

But I had.

As I walked, I realized something.

Whenever life begins to feel heavy...

I almost always find myself returning to the same three places.

Not because someone told me to.

Because experience has.

God.

Nature.

People.

Somehow...

those three things keep bringing me back to who I really am.

God reminds me Who is actually in control.

For a long time I thought faith meant having the right answers.

Understanding everything.

Doing everything "right."

But the older I get, the more I realize faith has become much simpler.

It's choosing to stay close.

Some mornings that looks like prayer.

Some mornings it's opening my Bible.

Other mornings it's simply admitting,

"Lord... I don't know what to do today."

And somehow...

that's enough.

I've learned that God doesn't always shout.

Sometimes He whispers.

Sometimes He teaches through Scripture.

Sometimes through hardship.

Sometimes through unexpected peace.

Looking back, I can see His fingerprints in places I completely missed while I was living them.

Nature reminds me nothing meaningful grows overnight.

I've always loved being outside.

Maybe that's one reason these little walks have become important to me.

The gravel hasn't changed.

The trees still stand where they always have.

Bailey still stops to investigate every smell along the driveway.

Nature never seems to be in a hurry.

And maybe that's what it has been trying to teach me.

Everything God created grows at the pace it was designed to grow.

Trees.

Gardens.

Faith.

Marriage.

Businesses.

People.

None of them are meant to be rushed.

When life becomes overwhelming, stepping outside reminds me that not everything needs to happen today.

Sometimes the healthiest thing we can do...

is simply breathe.

People remind me we were never meant to carry life alone.

One lesson I've learned over the years is that independence has limits.

We all need people.

Not crowds.

Not approval.

Just the right people.

The ones who tell us the truth.

Who pray for us.

Who encourage us.

Who remind us who we are when we've forgotten.

I've also learned something equally important.

Protecting your peace sometimes means letting certain relationships go.

Not every person is meant to walk every season beside you.

That isn't bitterness.

Sometimes it's wisdom.

At the end of the day...

I still believe the Golden Rule quietly changes everything.

Treat people the way you'd want to be treated.

Respect.

Kindness.

Consistency.

Those things never go out of style.

Looking Back...

I think I've made life harder than it needed to be.

Not because life was easy.

Because I spent too much time trying to carry things that were never mine to carry.

I worried.

I overthought.

I tried to control tomorrow.

And while I was busy worrying...

life was quietly happening around me.

If I have one regret...

it's not that I worked hard.

It's that I spent so much time worrying instead of living.

Instead of noticing.

Instead of trusting.

🌿 What I'm Learning

Whenever life starts feeling complicated...

I come back to three things.

Stay close to God.

Step outside.

Spend time with the people who bring out the best in you.

Everything else becomes a little easier to sort through.

Maybe peace isn't found by adding more.

Maybe it's found by returning to what matters most.

And maybe that's what those simple walks down the driveway were trying to teach me all along.

A Verse for This Journey

"Two are better than one... If either of them falls down, one can help the other up."

— Ecclesiastes 4:9–10

Something to Take With You

When life starts feeling heavy or complicated, maybe you don't need to figure everything out at once.

Maybe you just need to come back to what grounds you.

For me, it's become pretty simple:

God. Nature. People.

Your three things may be different.

Ask yourself:

What brings me back when life starts pulling me too far away from what matters?

Whatever your answer is, maybe that's where you need to spend a little more time.

Sometimes finding our way forward begins by returning to the things that have been quietly grounding us all along. ☀️
